The Marais -
Possibly the most fascinating area of Paris. Centre Pomidou to Place Bastile. Includes Place des Vosges (The most beautiful square in the world?). Amazing streets, I could wonder around the area for hours (probably years!).
Ile St. Louis -
An island in the Seine. Narrow streets, tall buildings, beautiful shops, beautiful people.
Jardin du Palais Royal -
An oasis of quiet in the Parisian metropolis. Fountains, trees, specialist shops, restaurants. Fantastic architecture
Montmartre -
Montmartre and art are inseparable. The artists quarter, on a hill above Paris. Basilica Sacre Coeur is one of the most recognisable buildings in Paris. The cemetery in Montmartre is a place of solitude and reflection, not as 'touristy' as Pere lachaise and just as
beautiful.
Place des Vosges -
The most beautiful square in the world? Well possibly it is. There are nine houses on each side of the square. After 400 years, unchanged and intact.
Institut du Monde Arab -
The Institute of the Arab World. A magnificent modern building designed by Jean Nouvel. The facade comprises of metal 'light screens' which open and close to reduce the amount of light entering the building.
Eiffel Tower -
Built in 1889, at 1051 ft (320m) high, it is the most iconic building in the world. It was the worlds tallest building until 1931 when the Empire State building was completed.
Gallerie Vivienne -
An early 19th century covered shopping arcade. Antique shops, book shops, restaurants, cafes, horologists, toy shops, fashion boutiques. At the risk of spending too much money, I could easily spend too much time here. I my even take a some photographs too.
Jardin du tuilleries -
The chairs! The chairs!. Hundreds of cast iron chairs around fountains and formal gardens. Adjacent to the Seine and next to the Louvre. One could let a lifetime slip by here and not notice.
Arch de Triomphe -
Built in 1805 by Napoleon to celebrate the battle of Austerlitz. A colossal and incredible memorial. Resting place of the unknown soldier. It offers some incredible views of Paris, I prefer the view form here than from the Eiffel Tower.
